Marine Engines - Tips & Guide
Home Page | Marine Engines
All marine engines must be manufactured to withstand extreme conditions. How many times have you started you car and immediately push down on the throttle, brought the engine up to three or four thousand rpm? Not very often, if you did you would probably jump out your driveway across the street and into your neighbor's yard.

It is important to realize that your automotive engine must be warmed up before it can give you optimum performance and is not designed for high reeves when it is still cold. Fortunately, we do not normally put that kind of demand on our cars. Yet we do not give it a thought when we get in our boat, we just jump in, start it, give it full throttle and off we go.

When an engine is cold (even if its 80 degrees outside temp) the oil is thick and the pistons have not expanded to their proper clearance. These are a couple of problems that must be taken into consideration when manufacturing a marine engine.

All of our marine engines are manufactured with Hyper Eutectic pistons, which means the pistons are extremely hard and will withstand high rpm's if cold or extreme heat if run hard.

The rod and main bearings installed in our marine engines are manufactured by Federal Mogul and are designed for marine, race care or heavy-duty truck. These bearings will withstand cold starts when the oil is still thick, and hard to deliver and will take up to 2,600 lbs psi caused from extreme use.

The valves in the cylinder head must be able to take extreme pounding and requires a valve made of satellite or austenitic.

The head gaskets we install are Fel-Pro for marine use only which employing 300 series stainless steel to resist rust and corrosion, Printoseal Electrometric sealing beads and rubber fiber facing material reinforced with Kevlar.

These are just a few things you should be aware of when purchasing a marine engine, as you can see, a marine engine requires special treatment and special parts, a regular automotive engine just will not hold up.

All of our marine engines meet or exceed the original manufactures specifications.
If it were possible to manufacture it better we would.
